Kuwait Ministry Of Education

Merrett Survey Ltd were commissioned to provide an as-built building survey for an atrium roof that had been constructed in Kuwait. The purpose of the laser scanning was to survey the roof support upstands and truss positions for Kuwait’s Ministry of Education Headquarters, which was under construction.

These were then compared to the design drawing, to ensure that the roof would fit when installed. The building itself is 12-storeys and covers a total site area of 40,000 sq m. The roof structure was very complex and it was important to verify that all the upstands were present and were at the correct height

This image shows the point cloud data merged with the design drawing. The large scale of this construction project can be seen via this short YouTube video.

Project Overview

Working in temperatures of up to 50°C, our topographical surveying professionals were pleased to be using a fast and highly accurate terrestrial laser scanner. The rapid data capture afforded by this method of surveying improves safety and reduces disruption on site.

The building has now been completed and provides administrative offices and support space for some 3,500 people. It also houses a 600-seat auditorium for student performances, conference rooms, a central library, food service facilities, lounges, prayer rooms, exhibition space and generous function space.

Our client was very pleased with the data provided. We were able to identify issues and ensure that when the time came to install the roof structure, this could be completed without any costly delays.

About As-Built Surveys

As-built surveys are often commissioned to prove that the structure, building or plant has been built to spec, to see that it matches the design drawings and to act as base plans and models for the future management and maintenance of the asset. Merrett Survey can scan your complex plant or factory to ensure that retrofit design projects are carried out efficiently by reducing clashes and rework.
