Vegetation Infringement

Merrett Survey uses remote sensing technology such as aerial LiDAR, UAS drone or ground based laser scanning for determining the relative distance between powerline conductors and nearby trees. This approach provides a rigorous, scientific evaluation of how close they are (to prevent a flashover) and whether there is a risk of a tree falling onto the line.

Case Study: Tractor Strike
Merrett Survey recently surveyed a pylon that had been struck by a tractor. The electricity tower was damaged and a decision was needed to ascertain if it was still structurally sound. Our laser scanning team surveyed the tower and produced precise and accurate data to inform engineering decisions. In addition, detailed imagery of terminal towers for asset management and maintenance ensures smooth operations of powerline infrastructure.

Case Study: Engineering drawings
Merrett Survey laser scanned a transmission tower using a high accuracy leica P40 laser scanner. Once the point cloud was registered, we produced detailed AutoCAD drawings and a 3D PLS CADD model. Re-engineering – we can provide engineering drawings of existing towers and critical dimensions for when drawings are lost or incomplete. Further towers on this line were surveyed for critical dimensions, including establishing bolt to bolt dimensions.
